Evidence exists that indicates public self storage facilities were available as far back as ancient China. In the United States, the self storage industry has grown by leaps and bounds for the past four decades, with close to 50,000 facilities in the US alone. Between 2000 and 2005, 3,000 new facilities were opened.
In the beginning, self storage was very basic. You rented a unit, secured it with a padlock and that was that. But in recent years we’ve seen the addition of air conditioning, climate control, enhanced security systems and more. Now there are specialized self storage facilities that cater specifically to business storage, restaurant storage, wine storage, fine art and even perishable food storage with the help of lockers kept at freezing temperatures.
Now, Simple Storage is the next step in the self storage model. Our goal has been to fix many of the inherent problems that we saw with self storage. The inconvenience, the time commitment, the unrealistic expense. Especially with the current economy, it’s harder for people to justify moving into larger homes, yet everyone still seems to accumulate more “stuff.”
We like the idea that we’ve come up with and we love working with our customers. But if you can think of any way for us to make it even easier for you, please email nick@simplestorage.com or matt@simplestorage.com. We love hearing from people.
